The federal government has announced plans to eliminate the Lakurawa terror group, which has been responsible for recent attacks and killings in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
Just last week, the group killed 15 people and rustled over 100 cows in Mera, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi. In response, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar assured that the government is taking immediate steps to address the threat.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Abubakar stated that additional troops and equipment would be deployed to the affected regions to curb the attacks and prevent the violence from spreading to other areas.
He added, “The acting Chief of Army Staff has visited the affected areas and met with other service chiefs to discuss strategies for defeating the group. Plans are in place, including deploying more personnel and resources to tackle the threat head-on.”
Abubakar expressed confidence in the coordination among the service chiefs, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff, saying, “With your prayers, we will defeat this challenge, God willing.”
Despite the challenges, he highlighted the successes of the military over the past year and vowed to continue the fight until the threat is completely eliminated. “We are working to ensure this does not escalate further,” he concluded.
