President Bola Tinubu, speaking in Riyadh on Monday, called for an immediate end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, stressing that “empty condemnations” are not enough to resolve the ongoing conflict. Addressing the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit, he expressed grave concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed since the October 2023 escalation.
The summit, attended by leaders from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, focused on the worsening situation in the Middle East. Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support for a two-state solution, calling for peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians in security and dignity.
Emphasizing the need for action, Tinubu urged the world to move beyond rhetoric and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He called for respect for international law, proportionality, and the basic rights of civilians, and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the vision of a two-state solution based on equality and mutual recognition.
Tinubu commended King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for convening the summit and pledged Nigeria’s support for ongoing peace initiatives. He also proposed establishing a secretariat to ensure the implementation of summit resolutions and the monitoring of global support for lasting peace in the region.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, calling for international recognition of Palestinian statehood based on the 1967 borders.
