A tragic road accident in Taura Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State claimed the lives of ten people and left several others severely injured.
The incident took place in Yanfari village, along the Kano/Hadejia Road, when a Toyota Hummer bus collided with a stationary trailer. A local source confirmed the details to DAILY POST, stating that the bus, which was traveling from Kano to Hadejia, hit a packed trailer (registration number RGN 180 ZC), causing the vehicle to somersault.
The Jigawa State Police confirmed the accident, with Police spokesperson DSP Lawan Shiisu revealing that the accident occurred on November 12, 2024, at about 2130hrs. According to Shiisu, the bus, driven by Sani Mainasara, had eleven passengers on board. Tragically, both the driver and nine passengers died instantly in the crash.
The Taura Division patrol team responded quickly to the scene, where they evacuated the bodies to Hadejia General Hospital. Medical staff confirmed the deaths. A surviving passenger was rushed to the Majia Primary Health Care Centre, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well to care.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, and authorities have stated that anyone found responsible will face legal consequences.
