Bitcoin continues to break records, hitting new all-time highs almost daily. However, this milestone is especially significant, as the cryptocurrency surpassed $80,000 for the first time on Sunday morning, reaching a peak of $80,137, according to Coinbase data.
In the span of just a few hours, Bitcoin surged from slightly above $77,000 to break the $80K barrier, marking a dramatic overnight rise. The previous all-time high of $73,737, set back in March, was exceeded earlier this week as news of Donald Trump’s election win began to take shape.
Trump, who made cryptocurrency a focal point of his campaign, promised to protect and promote the crypto industry in the U.S. and roll back the SEC’s crackdown on digital assets, which may have contributed to the market’s positive response.
At present, Bitcoin has gained nearly 17% over the past week, holding steady at around $79,875, just shy of its earlier high. Meanwhile, other major cryptocurrencies have seen even larger gains. Cardano has soared 86%, Dogecoin has surged by 66%, and Ethereum, which had been lagging behind Bitcoin’s recent growth, has jumped 31%, driven by renewed optimism around decentralized finance (DeFi).
