British Supermodel Georgina Cooper Dies at 46 After Falling Ill on Greek Island
British supermodel Georgina Cooper has tragically passed away at the age of 46 on the Greek island of Kos, just months after her wedding. Cooper, a mother-of-one, had been honeymooning with her new husband, Nigel, when she suddenly fell ill. Initially treated at the island’s main hospital, her condition rapidly worsened, prompting doctors to arrange an airlift to Crete for better medical care. She was admitted to intensive care but tragically passed away after five days.
Her former agent, Dean Goodman, spoke to MailOnline on November 8, expressing shock and sadness: “She loved Greece and had told me she was going back with her new husband. But she tragically died there two weeks ago. Georgina had been unwell during Covid and had developed some health problems, spending time in and out of hospitals. However, she had big plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everyone is devastated. She was a genuine superstar.”
Georgina, who was discovered at age 13, gained fame early in her career after appearing in a Bon Jovi music video at just 15. She became one of the most iconic faces of the 1990s, earning the nickname “London’s original gap-toothed girl” and gracing the covers of US Vogue and The Face.
After stepping back from modeling to raise her son, Sonny, she later worked in hospitality in Kent. In early June 2024, Georgina married Nigel in a ceremony near their home in Maidstone, Kent, with a reception at their local pub. The couple then enjoyed their honeymoon on the island of Kos, where Georgina shared joyful wedding photos with friends and family.
Her death follows a battle with health complications, which had worsened after her struggles during the Covid pandemic, according to her former agent. Georgina’s passing has left the modeling world in mourning.
Tributes have poured in from fellow models, including Jade Parfitt, Erin O’Connor, Jodie Kidd, and Helena Christensen, all of whom remembered her as a “ray of light” with immense achievements in the fashion industry. Jade Parfitt described her as “a very popular model, always fun, always laughing, and being naughty in the best ways.”
“Her friends and family are absolutely devastated,” said Parfitt. “We all wanted to hang out with George backstage. Her achievements in the industry were huge, and she will always be remembered fondly.”
Georgina’s body was flown back to England last week, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
