Dangote Refinery has announced its petrol prices, selling at ₦990 per litre for trucks and ₦960 per litre for ships.
This announcement comes in response to claims from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) that they are able to import petrol at lower prices than those set by Dangote.
In previous statements, the marketers indicated that they were purchasing petrol abroad at cheaper rates and urged Dangote Refinery to collaborate with stakeholders.
In its response, Dangote Refinery asserted that only substandard products could be imported at lower prices than theirs.
In a statement issued on Sunday night by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the refinery emphasized that it adheres to the pricing benchmark established by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and has even offered lower prices for shipments.
The statement reads: “Both organizations claim they can import petrol at lower prices than those of Dangote Refinery. We base our prices on international benchmarks and believe they are competitive compared to import costs.
“If anyone suggests they can bring in petrol cheaper than our prices, they are likely importing substandard products and colluding with international traders to introduce low-quality goods into the country, disregarding the health of Nigerians and the lifespan of their vehicles. Unfortunately, the regulator (NMDPRA) lacks the laboratory facilities necessary to detect substandard imports.
“After deregulation, NNPC set the standard by selling petrol to domestic marketers at ₦971 per litre for ships and ₦990 for trucks. This established the pricing benchmark, and we have gone lower, pricing at ₦960 per litre for ships while maintaining ₦990 for trucks.”
