The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that only individuals under the age of seven are exempt from being charged in court.
In an interview with Channels TV, he addressed the public concern regarding the arraignment of 67 minors in Abuja for alleged treason and vandalism during the End Bad Governance protests.
Adejobi explained, “Those below the age of seven are not considered criminally liable. Once you turn seven, you can be charged in court, provided certain procedures are followed. None of those involved is younger than seven; the youngest is around 13. Being 13 does not exempt you from facing charges. According to the Children and Young Persons Act, we can still pursue charges. We have taken this action on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the police are addressing the matter decisively.”
