This morning, members of the Ondo Youth League, under the banner of Action for Credible and Transparent Elections, gathered at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters, demanding the removal of Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State.
Led by convener Comrade Ayo Adeyemi, the youth, numbering in the hundreds, displayed placards with messages such as “INEC, let Ondo be the example of transparent elections,” “We don’t want Edo fiasco in Ondo,” and “INEC, it’s time to ensure fairness, redeploy Babalola.”
In front of the INEC office, Adeyemi stated: “Our protest today aims to guarantee that the upcoming governorship election in Ondo on November 16, 2024, is both transparent and credible, managed by individuals free from bias.”
He raised concerns about Mrs. Babalola’s alleged connections to the ruling party in Ondo, calling it a potential threat to democracy.
“We demand her immediate redeployment to preserve the integrity of the electoral process. We hope INEC will act to restore the public’s trust ahead of the election,” he added.
