According to Cyprus Mail on October 23, 2024, the arrests were made in collaboration with the anti-trafficking unit. The investigation began last year when a woman reported a theft but later raised suspicions of being a victim of sex trafficking during police questioning.
Police spokesman Christos Andreou confirmed the report and mentioned that the woman has been moved to a safe house for her protection.
The investigation took longer than expected due to the victim’s limited knowledge about her abusers. Coordinated police efforts led to the arrest of a 44-year-old woman on October 9, followed by another arrest on October 18. A third woman, aged 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Two men remain at large in connection with the case. Andreou stated that police have collected significant evidence and anticipate bringing the case to court soon.
Kudos to the police for taking action against human trafficking! We need to keep fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves. 💪 #EndHumanTrafficking
