The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) announced that it has shut down over 352 facilities, including religious centers, in the past year due to noise pollution and other environmental violations.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, LASEPA’s General Manager, reported this while presenting his annual review, highlighting that residents often fail to maintain compliance after enforcement. “After paying fines and being shut down, many revert to the same offenses,” he said, noting that penalties are critical to enforcing regulations globally.
Ajayi identified religious centers as the largest contributors to noise pollution due to insufficient regulation. He emphasized the need for stronger policies and mentioned ongoing efforts to educate religious leaders on maintaining noise levels below 60 decibels to protect public health.
