Gerard Piqué claims Shakira hasn’t been entirely honest about their breakup, stating he is “very happy” with his new girlfriend, who is 12 years his junior.
The former Spanish footballer made these comments after Shakira, 47, announced their split in June 2022 amid cheating rumors, following 11 years together and two children. Since then, Shakira has expressed her feelings about the breakup through her music.
Piqué, now dating 25-year-old Clara Chía Marti, emphasized his contentment, saying, “In the end, the truth isn’t always conveyed accurately, and I can’t control that. What matters is being surrounded by loved ones who truly know you, which gives me peace.”
He continued, “I’m very happy, enjoying life, and feel privileged. I’ve played for my lifelong club for over twenty years, have wonderful children, an incredible family, and lifelong friends.”
The couple shares two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. Reports from 2022 indicated they had been living apart for a few weeks after Piqué was asked to leave the family home by Shakira.
There were even rumors that Shakira discovered Piqué’s alleged infidelity after noticing a jar of strawberry jam had been eaten while she was away, as she was the only one who liked it. However, she later dismissed this theory.
By the summer of 2023, Piqué had reportedly moved in with Clara Chía in the home he previously shared with Shakira. Footage from January 2023 allegedly showed Piqué’s new girlfriend at his family home before his split, leaving Shakira feeling “devastated,” as the video was recorded ten months prior to their public breakup.
