A displaced Palestinian girl carried her injured sister on her back for an hour in the sweltering heat after her sister was struck by a car in Gaza. This poignant scene has captured the hearts of many.
The young girl, who was trying to get her sister to a refugee camp, caught the attention of a photojournalist.
As Israel’s assaults on the Gaza Strip persist, the humanitarian crisis in the region worsens daily.
In a video shared by the photojournalist, the girl, displaced by the ongoing violence, is seen carrying her sister for several kilometers.
Expressing her exhaustion, the little girl said, “I am very tired. I have been carrying her for an hour and I can no longer walk.”
Alaa Hamouda, the photojournalist who documented this moment, remarked, “I saw a displaced girl who had walked over two kilometers with her injured sister on her shoulders. She was alone, barefoot under the blazing sun.”
Hamouda then helped the girls by driving them to the Bureij Refugee Camp.
