The panel, established by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was tasked with investigating claims that cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, spent his six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in a custodial facility. The panel has dismissed these allegations.
Uju Agomoh, Executive Director and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), and a member of the panel, stated that there was no evidence to suggest that Bobrisky was outside the prison during his incarceration from April 12, 2024, to August 5, 2024.
“The panel found no evidence indicating that Mr. Okuneye spent any nights outside the custodial center during his imprisonment,” Agomoh stated, as reported by Vanguard.
She clarified that Bobrisky completed his six-month correctional sentence with the standard remission typically applied in such cases. However, she noted that he did receive certain privileges while incarcerated.
The panel was inaugurated in Abuja on Monday, September 30, after Bobrisky released an audio claiming he served his sentence in a flat near the prison.
