The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to withdraw the Super Eagles from their 2025 AFCON qualifier against Libya after a chaotic and dangerous situation at a Libyan airport. The team was on their way to Benghazi when their flight was suddenly diverted to Al Abraq Airport, about three hours away from their destination. Upon landing, they were stranded for over 12 hours without transportation, food, or communication, as the Libyan Football Federation failed to assist them.
The Super Eagles players, led by captain William Troost-Ekong, expressed their frustration, calling the treatment disgraceful and accusing the Libyan authorities of playing mind games. After enduring the ordeal, the players unanimously decided not to proceed with the match. The NFF supported this decision and is now making arrangements to fly the team back to Nigeria, effectively pulling out of the qualifier
